Littl-est things that warms the heart
♥ 5:51 PM
Finally went down to my grandpa's house with my brother. Well, ah-gong looked like he aged again, but he was really happy to see us. I knew there was nothing much i could do to make my ah-gong's health better, so all i could do was to act dumb and act happy so as to cheer him up. Took my photos, stayed for the entire afternoon and evening. I was quite sad when my ah-gong tried to hide from us the severity of his illness, but being a pharmacy student, how can i not understand? Liver failure, diabetes and recurring CAD? sigh...
anyways, my grandma did sumthing seriously sweet yesterday. Ard evening time, she and i went for a walk in the neighbourhood. She was very proud of the fact that i was walking beside her, and kept telling evryone she met who i was, and that i was in uni, and how i would come over to buy stuff for them. I saddened me a little, because deep inside, i knew she was concealing the sadness she felt because of the arguesments with my father, yet she had to pretend that everything was happy and well in the family.
We went to a traditional bread shop, where i saw my favorite cake when i was young, called "gek qui" in teochew, it'sactually leftover cake bits that the store would put in a plastic bag and sell for real cheap. Ah-mah bought 3 huge bags for me. Then before we left the store, she suddenly grabbed a sandwich off the counter and asked me if i wanted. I was about to refuse, being very full and stuff, but she suddenly said in teochew, " lets spilt the sandwich, we'll sit over there and eat with me? Actually, i never tried this sandwich, since u're here, lets buy it." Well, what could i say? funnily, this gesture touched me to tears. Our family was never anywhere near hard-up for cash. Yet, my ah-mah was always frugal. She always knew to get the best for the family, but wouldnt even spent a little bit extra on herself. Sitting with my ah-mah and eating the sandwich, i really appreciated what kinsship and love is all about.
so unskilled with words... i dun think i can even pen half of what i feel. Ok.. pictures... they speaka thousand words:)
